My Ex Doesn't Have Feelings For Me Anymore

It's an incredibly painful situation when your ex, who you still love, tells you they don't care or have feelings for you anymore. You're already reeling from the breakup, and hearing those words can push you into a deeper depression.

It's important to separate fact from fiction in this situation and always take into consideration what words are truly meant to convey.

"I Don't Have Feelings For You"

As much as your ex may want this to be true, love and emotions don't have switches. It isn't something you can turn off, and POOF, I don't care anymore. It doesn't work that way.

The reality of this scenario is that when your ex tells you this, it's more of a last straw situation. They've told you they want to breakup, and you want to work out the problems.

There's no resolution met, and you won't relent. It's obvious to them that you won't let the relationship end. So what do they do? They use common sense to try and fix the problem.

"If I tell them I don't care, they'll leave me alone."

Of course they still care about you, but they want the relationship to take a break. And the only way that will happen is if you have lost hope of solving the problems.

They've most likely tried multiple times to create space, most ex's will try to be polite or indirect. When they don't get the response they want, they choose more direct and harsh language.

So what do you do?

Well, hopefully you haven't reached this point because it means the communication will have to be repaired to some degree. When they tell you "I don't care about you", it's like putting up a wall to keep you out.

The first and most important step is to stop arguing. If they're telling you they need space, then respect that request. When you give them some space the hostility will fade and your future communications will get a positive reaction.

It's when you continue to persist, continue to argue that the already damaged communication gets worse.
